Roman Catholic Novenas to Angels

Novena is derived from the Latin word novem, meaning nine. A novena is a nine day period of public or private prayer to obtain special graces, to ask for special favors, or make special petitions. In a novena you ask an angel or Saint to intercede for you before the lord. The prayers of the novena are to be said for nine consecutive days. The novena is a spiritual exercise to help increase the faith of the individual saying it. The individual should always remember the goodness of the Lord who answers all of our prayers according to His divine will.

Novena to the Angels

Invocation

Come, let us worship the Lord in the company of his angels.

Reading   Ex 23:20-21a

See, I am sending an angel before you to guard you on the way and bring you to the place I have prepared.

Intercessions

Let us entreat the Lord that, with the angels who do his will,
we may respond more promptly to the sense of his message:
R./ With the angels we sing of your glory.
Lord, you made your angels messengers of your wonders;
- fashion us into heralds of your mighty deeds before all.
The angels ceaselessly proclaim your holiness;
- fashion your Church into a worthy voice for your praise.
You commanded the angels to protect your servants;
- may they be with us in all our endeavors.
Through the agency of the angels
- may all our petitions rise to you.
May the angels help us in our final hour
-and lead us to the land of paradise.

Prayer

Father with great wisdom you direct the ministry both of Angels and human beings. Grant that those who always minister to you in heaven may also defend us during our life on earth. We ask this in the Name of Jesus the Lord. Amen

Novena to Our Guardian Angel

Prayer

O most faithful companion, appointed by God to be my guardian, and who never leaves my side, how shall I thank you for your faithfulness and love  and for the benefits which you have obtained for me!
You watch over me when I sleep; you comfort me when I am sad; you avert the dangers that threaten me and warn me of those to come; you withdraw me from sin and inspire me to good; you exhort me to penance when I fall
and reconcile me to God.

I beg you not to leave me. Comfort me in adversity,
restrain me in prosperity, defend me in danger, and assist me in temptations, lest at any time I fall beneath them.
Offer up in the sight of the Divine Majesty my prayers and petitions, and all my works of piety, and help me to persevere in grace until I come to everlasting life.

Amen
