Size: 3½"

Tiny bird with needle-like bill. Metallic green above, white below. Male has a brilliant red throat.

Voice: twittering squeaks

Range: Breeds from southern Canada to the Gulf Coast. This is the only hummingbird to breed east of the Mississippi. Winters in the tropics.

Our nasturtiums attracted several hummingbirds in 1997. The next year we put out a hummingbird feeder as well as planting several other flowers to attract these marvelous little creatures. Hummingbirds are particularly attracted to red tubular flowers. Now we have three feeders out and look forward to our summer entertainment provided by these little beauties.
